Making school a happy place

I am talking about regular school, either public or private.  I know there are some alternative schools around, and certainly there is the homeschool option, but the majority of people send their children to regular schools, and its important to prepare your child for the experience.

Fabric Suppliers for MCN’s and nappies

After finding the pattern,  fabric is the next big purchase.  Once you have graduated beyond the basics, you will need to invest in specialist fabrics and notions, like PUL, Bamboo Fleece, FOE, lastin and snaps.  Here are some companies I have used.

Nappy pattern links

A few friends have asked for links to various nappy patterns I have used, so I thought I would list them here.  Of all the sites, the nappy network has been most useful.  Check out the tutorials I have created, if you need some instruction on making them.

Proud mummy moment

Mr12 arrived back from camp today …… and before the bus had even arrived at the school, one of his teachers raced up to tell me something he had done at camp.

On the second night, the kids had a talent quest. Mr12 had made a little bit of noise about singing something, but I didn’t pay much attention, as he suffers badly from stage fright, and never does these things.

MrsN tells me that he got up on stage, by himself ….. and sang the “Sick Man Blues” by The Goodies ….. from start to finish, with sounds effects and actions. He got a big cheer from the other kids, and the teachers were in fits of laughter.

My shy boy, is maturing into a confident pre-teen …… even if he is a bit stinky.

Implementing a new eating regime ……

Well, I have finally conceded that I can no longer eat mass produced bread products of any kind, and so I am at the end of my first week of a new eating regime, (not a diet as such, since I am not attempting to lose weight) although I have lost a couple of kilos.

How I value my time ………..

Whenever I post an online topic showing people my sewing creations, I inevitably have to field the requests for me to make something for them. Its really hard for me because I don’t have a huge amount of spare time, and so my sewing time is devoted to my family and to gift sewing for friends. Its doubly hard, because I value a large number of people in various forums, as online friends, and saying no to a friend is hard.

I love to sing

I have favourite singers and bands …. not based on their music so much …. but on my ability to sing along to them.

Bic Runga, Deni Hines, Aqua, Evanescence (yes this is a push), Gotye, The Carpenters, P!NK, Chris Isaak, Dido, Fleetwood Mac (as long as its the girls singing, can’t stand the guy), Everything but the Girl, Jewel, Peter Gabriel, Sade plus the music of my childhood. Continue reading

Man Flu …. its deadly

This actually happened over a year ago, but I am hoping the time passed means that my husband won’t be offended that I post this. This is a series of posts in a forum I frequent, that document my brush with this horrible disease. Continue reading

Fabulous job opportunities ……

Hubby has finally posted in his blog, about his new job. Its a great change in his role, and a fantastic opportunity to move his career forward. But it has left me with a difficult choice.

With his new, more responsible role, is an increase in the level (and type) of stress he is operating under. As always, I have been aware of the need for me to balance the impacts this sort of job has on the household, and the family. Next year was supposed to be my year to work on my career, but I worry that there isn’t enough room to fit two careers in this family.

Miss17 is off to Uni next year, which will impact financially. Mr11 is off to highschool, which will impact financially. But, along with that financial impact, is the need for one of us to be flexible and available, for taxi duty if nothing else. I get the impression I will need to closely monitor mr11, at least for the first few years, or risk his inherent laziness causing a plummet in his grades.

I feel torn. I feel its time to move on from my current role, but the conditions that make a school position attractive despite the ridiculous workload (school hols) and my worry about the needs of my children …. leave me feeling at a bit of a loss.

Women speak ……..

Its been no secret for eons, that women and men are actually different species, that happen to coexist on the same lump of rock. SOOOO many problems and issues are caused, exacerbated and exploded…… simply by a major conflict in communication styles.

So …. since I am a woman, I want to give men a little clue, on exactly how to interpret the little signals that your lovely lady is sending you. Continue reading
