I’m joining Jody’s JaM meme. This week, in her words:
I’m inviting you to step away from your sewing machine and take a photo…
now.
No thought, No styling,
– a candid look at your creative space & the means by which you create…
the smaller the space & the bigger the mess the better!
Tell us a bit about what your latest project is, was or is going to be
and about your machine.
Wow …… what a challenge. I have a fairly small space, and looking at it through a camera lens, I can say that my inner obsessive is feeling very satisfied. I am embarrassed to say that it is always this tidy …… I am anal like that.
So …. a little about my space.
* on the left is my Janome 3050, only back from the sewing machine doctor about a week, after taking an unplanned bungee jump off the sewing desk. She’s a good little machine, but I occasionally do lust after the memory craft machines ….. I am controlling myself though ….. badly.
.
* Jammed into the corner in the centre, is my scrap bin, a book shelf we never access, some plastic draws for bits and pieces, the air conditioner (with a piece of mending sitting on top of it) and the regular rubbish bin. The pink box on top of the draws is my Completed Projects ….. I have 4 baby gifts to put together, so at the moment, every time I finish an item, I just dump it in there. Pegged to the curtain is the instruction sheet for a bag, I don’t have problems with my eyes, so I can see the instructions from the sewing machine or overlocker, without them getting in the way.
.
* On the wooden desk is the cutting mat I got for xmas (partly the cause for the fallen sewing machine), along with my 744D overlocker. Very soon she will be joined on that table by a Coverpro CPX, which I am picking up today. At this point, I have no idea how I will power it, as the number of power points is very limited in this room. To the right of the desk is my pattern storage, a filing cabinet that I stole from hubby’s study…… he he he
…….
And onto my projects …… well as I said, I have 4 baby gifts to complete ….. these will include MCN’s, bibs, burp cloths, an outfit, and for one particular friend, a nappy bag as she isn’t going to cloth nappy.   To the left of the OL is the half completed nappy bag…… I am waiting on some ribbon from Crafty Mamas to finish off the handles, before putting it together. On the right of the OL, is a stack of minky and fleece, which will be the MCN’s eventually. I am holding off cutting, because minky sheds like a hairy goat when cut, and I want to get it cut and sewn in the shortest timeframe possible. Sitting on the filing cabinet is another project waiting to happen …… a t-shirt for myself.  My fabric is stored in a different room, on shelves and in baskets under my bed. Best not to look at that.
………
These 4 baby gifts will be the last ones I do. I have come to the conclusion that its time to sew for me, and specifically, time to stop sewing baby things. Baby things are a bittersweet thing to do, causing me joy because I do them well, but also pain. So, time to stop.
………
Well, there you go, a look at my space. I am not sure what it says about me, but it works and although my machines share the space with the computer, it feels like my own little world.
If you want to see some other spaces, pop over to Jodies for a look.
